Alcohol myth test
True or False? Put your alcohol knowledge to test! www.kannikapina.fi/radat/
Alcohol marketing sucks!
The head quarter's blog (http://www.kannikapina.fi/paamaja-blog/) publishes current examples of questionable alcohol advertising.
You are welcome to read and comment the blog as well as state your opinions about misleading promotion or ads targeting underage customers.
Take part in arguing that alcohol marketing requires active regulation and supervision. If you wish to report questionable advertising, please contact Valvira (09) 772 920 or email alkoholi@valvira.fi. Complaints about local alcohol promotion (such as ads outside single bars/shops) can be made to local state provincial office, department for social and health.
The Finnish law bans advertising when for example: it is aimed at minors or if such persons are depicted in it; consumption of alcohol is there linked to driving a vehicle; the alcohol content of an alcoholic beverage is there emphasized as a positive quality; an abundant consumption of alcohol is described there in positive terms, or temperance or moderate consumption of alcohol in negative terms; it gives an idea that alcohol increases the functional capacity or makes one socially or sexually more successful; it gives an idea that alcohol has medical or therapeutic properties or that is refreshes, calms or is a means to settle conflicts; and if it is contrary to good manners, it uses methods that are inappropriate from the viewpoint of the consumer or otherwise gives untruthful or misleading information about alcohol, its use, effects or other properties.
Parliament is discussing the ban of image-based alcohol advertising
BR has challenged image-based alcohol marketing. The work of health-and social organisations and BR has produced results, as at present the parliament is discussing the ban of image-based alcohol advertising. BR is actively working to enforce the amendment. The amendment would allow only product content information in ads. Images of people partying with drinks in their hands will not be allowed. The ban of image-based alcohol ads will protect children and youth, as alcohol marketing tends to increase the consumption of alcohol especially among the young.
Wine-not for all occasions- BR succeeded in removing an inappropriate ad.
BR has won a round in the battle against alcohol marketing! BR successfully filed a report against a wine ad to the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health. The ad in question had an image of the product with a slogan: 'Easy to enjoy, in all occasions'. The ad was visible on billboards and newspapers. BR considered the slogan in the ad as inappropriate, as alcohol is not suitable for all occasions: driving, pregnancy, family-life, work-place etc. We contacted authorities, who made a request for clarification from the company responsible for the ad. the company realised their marketing was against principle and voluntarily withdrew the slogan from their campaign.
The kibitzers in politics- alcohol industry in politics
The advocates of the alcohol industry speak beautifully of education and moderation, but what are their real priorities in politics? The efforts of the distillery industry do not limit lobbying. Manufacturers (and advertisers) have played a big role in creating the current alcohol legislature.
The issue is of current interest; as the parliament is at present discussing the restrictions on alcohol marketing. The alcohol industry is to once again aiming to shape the attitudes of politicians and media in its favour. Read more
